Twenty Eight.

Today is my 28th birthday.  While some awesome things happened while I was 27, I have a feeling 28 will be the best one yet.

This year’s birthday was a little different than birthdays past.  Just low-key birthday dinner and birthday breakfast with some of the people I love.  We are traveling later this week and have a wedding to attend, so there will be a lot to celebrate over the next few days.

Something that I am determined to do more of this year is travel.  I love exploring new places (and food!) and did not get to do nearly enough of that this past year.  Fortunately my first few days of being 28 will involve a trip and hopefully more to come.

One thing that always remains constant on my birthday is a delicious birthday cake.  And thanks to the Englishman, this year was no different.  He made this delicious cake, and it was enjoyed with some Greek frozen yogurt while watching the closing ceremony of the Olympics.  Not a bad way to spend my birthday at all.

Bring it on 28!  I can’t wait to see what you have in store for me this year.

Weekend Snapshots

Is anyone else having a hard time believing we are over halfway through summer?  I mean, August starts this week!  I still have a lot of summer-y things to do including have a bonfire at the beach, make sangria, go bike riding either to or along the ocean, and figure out how to make corn syrup-free marshmallows so I can enjoy some smores.  Thankfully summer seems to last into September in Southern California, so I suppose I have a little extra time.

This past weekend was filled with good eats, good friends, and scoring a good deal on a dress to wear to a wedding I am attending in Colorado next month.  All in all, not too shabby of a weekend.  Instead of a play-by-play, let’s let the pictures speak for themselves.

An Afternoon Picnic

We have been having fabulous weather the past couple of weeks in So. Cal – June gloom is slowly starting to disappear, the temps are in the high 70s (unless you are inland – is 90 there!) and there’s a light breeze in the air.  It’s safe to say that summer is officially live and well here.

Since the weather has been so nice, it only seemed fitting to have a summer picnic, so the Englishman and I packed up some food and walked over to a local park not too far from our apartment to enjoy our spread in the grass.

And what a spread it was!  We had salami and cheese sandwiches made with homemade rosemary bread (recipe coming soon).  Not going to lie, this bread is pretty fantastic.

Since CA Grown produce is pretty amazing right now we had some delicious grapes, watermelon and tomatoes, all grown right here in the golden state.  Quick Tip to OC Residents: go to Grower’s Direct in Costa Mesa for your produce.  The quality there is pretty impressive and it’s definitely affordable!

Of course no picnic is complete without a bit of bubbly, so some prosecco from Trader Joe’s was enjoyed as well.

It was so nice to dine al fresco, away from any distractions (TV/phone/internet) and to just enjoy each other’s company.

Cheers to more summer picnics!
